Seminar “Digital Technology and Building Information Modeling: Career Opportunities with Tekla Structures” for Students at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE)

On September 21, 2024, Kơ Nia Co., Ltd., in collaboration with the Faculty of Buildings and Industrial Constructions at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, organized a seminar titled “Digital Technology and Building Information Modeling (BIM): Career Opportunities with Tekla Structures” The event aimed to provide students with opportunities to connect with industry professionals and gain practical experience in applying BIM software to real-world projects, laying a strong foundation for their final year before graduation.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phạm Thanh Tùng, Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Industrial Construction, delivered the opening remarks to kick off the seminar.

The main objective of the seminar was to equip students with an understanding of BIM modeling skills, how to extract information from BIM models, and the coordination between various disciplines within a construction project. This was achieved by fostering engagement with enterprises specializing in BIM technology.

Representatives from the university included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phạm Thanh Tùng, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vũ Anh Tuấn, Vice Dean of the Faculty, along with other lecturers. On the corporate side, invited guests included Ms. Đàm Thúy Hạnh, Head of Detailing Design at Zamil Steel Buildings Vietnam Co., Ltd., and Mr. Đinh Đức Huy, Structural Detailing Engineer, who was also one of the keynote speakers. Additionally, Mr. Nguyễn Đức Hóa, Technical and Training Specialist for Tekla Structures at Kơ Nia, also shared insights during the event.

The seminar was divided into four main topics: an introduction to Tekla Structures and other BIM tools for civil engineers, an overview of Zamil Steel Vietnam and career opportunities with Tekla Structures, the application of Tekla Structures in real-world projects, and Trimble Tekla’s student support and training programs. Over four hours, students participated in informative sessions, engaged in Q&A discussions with the speakers and guests, and took part in quizzes with exciting prizes.

Additional Information

BIM (Building Information Modeling) is an advanced digital technology that has been widely adopted in the construction industry across many countries. In Vietnam, BIM has been implemented since late 2016 in the design, construction, and operational management of buildings. In April 2021, the Ministry of Construction released a comprehensive guide on BIM implementation, which includes detailed guidelines for civil and urban infrastructure projects. This is a key legal framework that has accelerated BIM development in Vietnam, contributing to the construction industry’s efforts to embrace the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Tekla Structures is a BIM software that allows users to create and manage detailed 3D models of structural systems, regardless of their complexity or material type (e.g., steel structures, reinforced concrete, precast concrete). These 3D models contain accurate and comprehensive information about the project, enabling control over the entire construction process—from conceptual design to fabrication, erection, and project management.

Trimble Tekla’s Education and Training Policy in Vietnam – Kơ Nia Co., Ltd. is authorized to implement and develop educational support initiatives, offering numerous free benefits from Trimble, along with non-commercial activities (seminars, workshops, project guidance, software training, certifications, scholarships) for universities in the civil engineering and construction fields to help students improve their knowledge and skills in using Tekla Structures.
