TECCO1 adopts Trimble Connect and Tekla Structures to streamline BIM workflows, improve collaboration, reduce design errors, and boost productivity in major transportation infrastructure projects.
Company Introduction
TRANSPORT ENGINEERING CONSULTANT INVESTMENT JOINT STOCK COMPANY NO.1 (TECCO1) is a reputable consulting firm in Vietnam’s transportation infrastructure sector. With over 150 technical staff, the company has contributed to key national projects such as Hai Thanh Bridge, Tra Khuc 1 Bridge, and Rao Bridge.
As both a design consultant and a BIM implementation pioneer for bridge and road projects, TECCO1 constantly seeks advanced technologies to enhance service quality and work efficiency. Among these technologies, Trimble Connect stands out as a highly effective BIM collaboration platform.
Challenges Before Implementing Trimble Connect
Before adopting Trimble Connect, TECCO1 encountered significant challenges managing their BIM model data. Technical documents were large, disorganized, and difficult to control and coordinate effectively. Information sharing across departments relied heavily on manual methods such as email, USB drives, and messaging apps – leading to communication delays and increased risk of human error.
Although Navisworks was used to detect model clashes, it lacked robust online sharing and version control capabilities. These limitations highlighted the need for a more flexible and centralized BIM collaboration solution.
Why TECCO1 Chose Trimble Connect
TECCO1 selected Trimble Connect for several compelling reasons:
-
Cost-effective solution suitable for the company’s budget
-
Web-based, user-friendly interface, accessible across teams
-
Real-time data sharing, enabling seamless collaboration
-
Strong compatibility with IFC files, especially those exported from Tekla Structures, which TECCO1 uses for bridge and road design
Given the linear and extended nature of infrastructure projects, which involve multiple stakeholders and continuous updates, Trimble Connect’s real-time, multi-user capabilities proved to be an ideal fit.
Implementation and Expansion
TECCO1 began with a pilot project for the DT354 – QL10 connector road in Hai Phong, overseen by the company’s BIM Manager. After a successful rollout, the company expanded Trimble Connect to level-II and larger projects, including:
-
Hai Phong Ring Road 2
-
Tra Khuc 1 Bridge (Quang Ngai)
-
Cua Tung – Cua Viet route (Quang Tri)
-
And several other transportation infrastructure initiatives
During the initial phase, TECCO1 received technical support from their software distributor, including user training and troubleshooting. Today, Trimble Connect serves as TECCO1’s official Common Data Environment (CDE) for managing documents, IFC models, and facilitating cross-team collaboration.
Benefits and Achievements
The adoption of Trimble Connect has brought significant improvements:
-
Better coordination among design teams and project stakeholders
-
Early clash detection and resolution, reducing errors and avoiding rework during construction
-
Version control and data transparency, eliminating document confusion
-
Time savings and cost reduction, through streamlined workflows
To date, TECCO1 has applied Trimble Connect to 8 projects with over 10 technical staff from the Technology Department operating and managing the platform effectively.
Future Orientation
Looking ahead, TECCO1 aims to further expand the use of Trimble Connect across upcoming projects, while deepening integration with other BIM tools to maximize coordination and design quality. This move marks a strategic step in the company’s digital transformation journey, aligning with increasingly stringent demands in Vietnam’s transportation infrastructure sector.
By combining the capabilities of Trimble Connect and Tekla Structures, TECCO1 continues to reinforce its role as a forward-thinking leader in BIM innovation within the civil engineering and infrastructure domain.
