In the context of the construction industry’s accelerating digital transformation, BIM (Building Information Modeling) has become a core platform in the design, construction, and operation management of projects. The adoption of BIM helps improve productivity, enhance coordination, and minimize errors throughout the entire project lifecycle, thereby gradually transforming the way modern construction projects are executed and managed.

In particular, according to Vietnam’s BIM implementation roadmap, starting from 2026, many large-scale projects classified as Grade II and above will begin requiring BIM application during project execution. This has created a significant demand for skilled professionals capable of utilizing advanced BIM technologies, especially widely adopted solutions such as Tekla Structures and Trimble Connect.

In that context, the seminar “Developing BIM for Construction Projects with Tekla Structures”, held from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Skills Hall, Campus 3 of University of Transport Ho Chi Minh City (UTH), became a meaningful opportunity to provide students with practical knowledge and career orientation for their future in the construction industry.

Konia and UTH Bring BIM Closer to Students

The seminar was jointly organized by Konia and Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport (UTH) with the aim of helping students gain closer access to real-world working environments as well as technologies currently being applied by leading construction enterprises.

As the exclusive authorized distributor of Trimble Tekla in Vietnam, Konia has spent many years supporting the local BIM community through training programs, implementation consulting, and initiatives that connect businesses with universities.

On the university side, UTH is one of the key institutions specializing in transportation and construction engineering in Southern Vietnam. The university is also actively promoting a practice-oriented training approach through research collaborations and specialized industry-focused programs.

The program was also accompanied by Dai Dung Mechanical Construction Trading Corporation, one of Vietnam’s leading enterprises in the steel structure industry, recognized for its extensive application of BIM and Tekla Structures in numerous large-scale domestic and international projects.

BIM – An Essential Foundation for Construction Engineers in Vietnam’s “Era of Growth”

Opening the seminar, Dr. Pham Tien Cuong – Vice Director of the DEOCA Research and Training Institute (VCI) under UTH – delivered a keynote speech highlighting the increasingly important role of BIM in the modern construction industry.

He emphasized that as Vietnam enters a period of rapid infrastructure development, the demand for engineers capable of mastering advanced technologies will continue to grow significantly. BIM is no longer simply a “valuable skill,” but is gradually becoming a new professional standard for the next generation of engineers.

His speech also reflected the spirit of Vietnam’s emerging “Era of Growth,” in which infrastructure, transportation, and construction play a leading role in driving socio-economic development. Within this context, students who proactively gain early exposure to BIM will have a substantial advantage when entering the job market.

Konia Introduced Training Programs and Awarded Certificates to Outstanding Students

Continuing the seminar, Ms. Do Linh An – Marketing & Training Coordinator at Konia – presented an overview of the company’s training courses, educational programs, and certification system currently being implemented.

Beyond software knowledge alone, Konia’s training programs are designed to develop practical capabilities and adaptability to real-world business environments. This has also become a core direction throughout Konia’s collaborative training activities with universities across Vietnam.

As part of the event, Ms. An also represented the company in awarding certificates to six of the most active students participating in self-learning activities on the free E-learning platform, Konia Campus, which had previously been organized in collaboration with the university.

Notably, she emphasized that the true value of these certificates does not lie in their quantity or appearance, but in the practical recognition they receive from leading construction enterprises — organizations that have continued to accompany Konia through long-term trust and cooperation. For students, these certifications represent one of the first meaningful professional credentials supporting their future career development in BIM.

Tekla Structures and Trimble Connect: From Technology to Real-World Applications

One of the most engaging sessions of the seminar was the presentation delivered by Mr. Bui Manh Hung – BIM Leader at Dai Dung.

During the session, Mr. Hung introduced Tekla Structures, Trimble’s structural BIM solution that enables highly accurate building modeling and supports the detailing and execution of steel structures, concrete structures, and various complex construction projects.

At the same time, he also shared insights into Trimble Connect — a Common Data Environment (CDE) platform that allows project stakeholders to coordinate data, manage information, and collaborate efficiently within a shared digital workspace.

Beyond theoretical concepts, the presentation drew significant attention from students as Mr. Hung demonstrated how Dai Dung applies BIM in real-world projects, most notably the Vietnam Exhibition Center project in Dong Anh, Hanoi — a national landmark project developed under an exceptionally demanding construction schedule.

Practical examples of implementation workflows, model coordination, and the application of Tekla Structures in large-scale projects provided students with a clearer and more visual understanding of how BIM operates within professional enterprises.

Expanding Career Opportunities for UTH Students

The atmosphere of the seminar became even more dynamic during the interactive discussion and Q&A session between students and the guest speakers.

Mr. Bui Manh Hung and Dr. Pham Tien Cuong directly addressed a wide range of questions related to BIM career orientation, essential skills for learning Tekla Structures, recruitment trends, and the growing demand for skilled BIM professionals in the coming years.

Notably, Mr. Hung also expressed his hope that, in the future, he would have the opportunity to work alongside UTH students within Dai Dung’s professional working environment. In addition, the company shared its intention to continue collaborating with the university to further expand internship and career opportunities for students.

By connecting practical knowledge, modern technology, and career orientation, the seminar became more than just a professional academic event — it also served as an inspiring platform for young engineers preparing to enter the construction industry in an era of rapid digital transformation.

As BIM continues to become an essential requirement in the construction industry, seminars like this play an important role as a bridge between academic knowledge and the real-world challenges faced by businesses. With the collaboration of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport (UTH), Konia, and Dai Dung, students were not only introduced to Tekla Structures and Trimble Connect through a structured and practical approach but were also inspired to enter the industry with greater confidence, proactiveness, and readiness for the digital transformation era.
