Students Bui Chi Cuong (First Prize – Civil and Industrial Works category) and Truong Hai Bang (Third Prize – Civil and Industrial Works category) made their mark at the 2025 Loa Thanh Awards with their meticulously researched and well-developed graduation projects, guided by lecturers from the Faculty of Construction.

The Loa Thanh Award is the most prestigious national recognition for outstanding graduation projects by students in the fields of Construction and Architecture across Vietnam. The 2025 awards were selected and recognized under Decision No. 160, dated October 17, 2025, by the Loa Thanh Awards Council.

This achievement is the result of rigorous, creative, and persistent study, demonstrating the young engineers’ capabilities in research, design thinking, and the application of new technologies. It is not only a source of personal pride for the students but also a testament to the training quality and innovative spirit of Western Construction University.

First Prize – “Vinpearl High-rise Building” Graduation Project by Student Bui Chi Cuong

Student Bui Chi Cuong (class XD21D01) won First Prize at the 2025 Loa Thanh Awards with his graduation project titled “Vinpearl High-rise Building” – a Grade II civil building consisting of 17 floors, 1 penthouse floor, and 1 basement, located in District 9, Ho Chi Minh City.

With the support of Tekla Structures, Cuong successfully created a detailed model of the entire concrete, rebar, and formwork structure, ensuring absolute accuracy and high consistency across all components. The design data was linked with MS Project to develop the construction schedule, optimizing resources and costs — a clear demonstration of professional BIM application within an academic environment.

In addition, Cuong conducted an analysis and selected the prestressed spun concrete pile foundation solution, which was evaluated as the most optimal in terms of technical efficiency, constructability, and cost-effectiveness.

The “Vinpearl High-rise Building” project showcases a creative engineering mindset, mastery of technology, and a pioneering spirit in digital transformation, earning high praise from the professional council for its practicality and effective implementation of Tekla Structures.

Third Prize – “Emerald Hotel” by Student Truong Hai Bang at the 2025 Loa Thanh Awards

Student Truong Hai Bang (class XD21D03) received the Third Prize at the 2025 Loa Thanh Awards for his graduation project titled “Emerald Hotel” — a 15-story building with one basement level located in District 9, Ho Chi Minh City. The project was highly appreciated for its creativity and effective application of BIM technology.

Bang utilized Tekla Structures in combination with ETABS, SAFE, and PROKON to create a 3D structural model, perform precise calculations, and verify the accuracy of all structural components. Notably, the project implemented the UBOOT-BETON long-span slab solution – an advanced voided slab technology that helps reduce structural weight, save materials, and expand architectural space.

In addition, the student developed the construction methods for the basement, the overall construction site layout, and visualized the construction sequence using Tekla Structures, demonstrating strong project management skills and BIM-based planning capability.

The “Emerald Hotel” project stands as a testament to the independent thinking, creativity, and technological adaptability of the new generation of Vietnamese engineers.

Tekla Structures – A Launchpad for the Next Generation of BIM Engineers

This year’s award-winning projects once again affirm the role of Tekla Structures not only as a design tool but also as a platform for education and innovation, enabling construction engineering students to transform technical ideas into realistic building models.

With its ability to deliver precise 3D modeling, automated quantity takeoff, clash detection, and direct integration with construction scheduling software, Tekla Structures empowers students to master the entire BIM workflow, effectively bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application.

The training and dissemination of Tekla Structures software, along with the sharing of BIM application knowledge and skills, are among the initiatives invested in by Konia Co., Ltd. for the next generation of engineers — helping them prepare for global integration and contribute to the sustainable and modern development of Vietnam’s construction industry.
