In the digital transformation era, BIM technology is becoming a trend in the construction industry. The seminar “Building a BIM Foundation with Tekla Structures Software”, organized by the Department of Engineering Technology – Tien Giang University in cooperation with Konia Co., Ltd., provided students with a comprehensive view of digital technology in modern design and construction.

Digital transformation is strongly spreading into all sectors including the construction industry, and Vietnam is not outside that flow. From design, construction to project management, technology has become the “golden key” opening a new era of efficiency, precision and sustainability. In this trend, Building Information Modeling (BIM) emerges as a comprehensive solution that helps synchronize workflows, connect stakeholders and optimize costs, while representing a new mindset in modern construction management—where all data is digitized, every step has a basis for calculation, prediction and control.

Recognizing the importance of this trend, the Department of Engineering Technology – Tien Giang University collaborated with Konia Co., Ltd. to bring technology closer to students by organizing the seminar “Building a BIM Foundation with Tekla Structures Software” – a practical activity that helped students understand, experience and orient their careers in the digital construction era.

A technology bridge between school and enterprise

The seminar took place on November 7, 2025, attracting over 100 students majoring in Construction Engineering Technology and featuring two speakers from Konia Co., Ltd. – the only authorized distributor of Tekla Structures software in Vietnam.

This event was not just a knowledge-sharing session, but also a bridge connecting learning with real-world practice, giving students the opportunity to approach the BIM trend that is changing the global construction industry. The speakers offered deep insights on BIM standardization processes, application of Tekla Structures, as well as the wide-open career opportunities for young engineers who are ready to master this technology.

From policy to practice – perspective of the Tekla technical experts

The event began with Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoa — Tekla Technical Engineer at Konia Co., Ltd. — presenting the foundational concept of BIM and its development journey in Vietnam.

He emphasized that the Government of Vietnam already has a roadmap to standardize and mandate BIM for Grade-I and Grade-II construction works, as reflected in key legal documents such as:

  • Decision No. 258/QĐ-TTg approving the project on applying BIM in construction activities.
  • Decree No. 35/2023/NĐ-CP on investment project management involving building information models.
  • And Circular No. 09/2024/TT-BXD guiding the detailed implementation and management of BIM data in construction projects.

From this, he affirmed that BIM is not just a trend but has become a mandatory requirement in the new phase of Vietnam’s construction industry.

After the theoretical sharing, Mr. Hoa introduced the Tekla ecosystem — a comprehensive solution chain for the BIM workflow. Among them, Tekla Structures is viewed as the centre of the building information model, supporting structural design of steel, concrete and precast with high accuracy.

He also introduced the CDE platform, Trimble Connect — a leading data-sharing platform among CDE systems popular in Vietnam. In addition, he guided students on how to register for a Tekla Structures Student account, enabling them to experience the software directly for practical skill-building.

Career future and study toolkit from Konia Campus

Following this, Ms. Do Linh An — Marketing & Training Coordinator of Konia Co., Ltd. — delivered an inspiring presentation about the online learning platform Konia Campus and career orientation for construction engineers amid the BIM development trend.

Konia Campus is a video-based course platform designed by Konia with the goal of helping learners approach knowledge quickly – concisely – effectively, with each lesson lasting only 15–30 minutes, suitable for today’s dynamic pace. Additionally, Konia Campus includes a completion certificate (issued by Konia) and a professional Tekla Structures certificate issued by Trimble — globally recognized.

This is a completely free benefit for universities partnering with Konia and is a major advantage for students in their future careers
